Stromboli is the northeastern most of the Aeolian Islands. Stromboli volcano has one of the world's longest recorded periods of activity.
The active craters are located 100-150 m below Pizzo sopra la Fossa.
A collapse depression called Sciara del Fuoco is located below the active craters.
