Apagado volcano is located in southern Chile, in the center of the peninsula between the Gulf of Ancud and the Reloncaví estuary. It is 50 km SE of Puerto Montt.

The summit contains a well preserved, unvegetated crater 360 x 400 m in diameter. Eruptions at the volcano are undated, but have been relatively recent because of the young appearance of the cone.
