Bishoftu Volcano is located 40 km SE of Addis Ababa. It consists of fissures, lava flows, cinder cones, tuff rings, and maars.

The volcano is located at the resort town of Debre Zeyit. The town is built around five crater lakes: Lake Bishoftu, Lake Hora, Lake Bishoftu Guda, Lake Koriftu and seasonal Lake Cheleklaka.
