Mt Eccles volcano is located 10 km west of the town of Macarthur. It is a composite volcano with a crater lake, spatter cones, lava tubes, and tumuli. The Mt Eccles lava flow (Tyrendarra Flow) is one of the longest in Victoria.

The volcano is considered as dormant, but not yet extinct. Eruptions from the volcano were effusive.
