The southern east Pacific rise is located 1000 km NW of Easter Island. Segment K is the northernmost volcano in the group.

Lava was erupted along two segments of the mid-ocean ridge, a 4-km-long flow at the southern site and a 5-10 km long flow at the northern site around 1990.
