A volcano eruption is the process whereby solid, liquid or gas is emitted on to the earth's surface. Erupted materials from a volcano include - Gaseous compounds of sulphur, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide. Water vapour and steam. Scoria, Pumice, Cinders, Ash, Dust, Lava.

Volcano eruptions may be quiet, explosive or paroxysmal.

Explosive eruptions are classified according to a logarithmic scale called the Volcanic Explosivity Index.
