Hijiori volcano is located in northern Honshu, Japan. It consists of a collapsed caldera approximately 1.5–2 km in diameter.

Hot springs and fumaroles are located on the eastern edge of the caldera, along a north to northeast trending fault. Hijiori volcano contains an extensive system of ring fractures and faults bounding the caldera.

The volcano is located in Yamagata Prefecture. It is the only Prefecture in Japan in which every municipality has its own hot spring area. There are more than 100 hot springs in the area.
