producing a lava fountain which reached 1900 ft high.
Huge amounts of lava were released
which filled the crater to a depth of 414 ft.

Iki Trail
The trail is a circuit and starts at
Thurston Lava Tube. It descends to the crater floor hikers are able to
walk on a crusted lava lake. Tests have shown that magma is currently only
70 m below the surface of the craster.
