Koshelev volcano is located SW of Pauzhetka volcano-tectonic depression in southern Kamchatka. The saddle between Koshelev and Kambalny volcanoes hosts numerous small lakes, and has tundra and meadow vegetation.

The relative height of the volcano is 1500 m and it has a volume of 3 cubic km. Seasonal snow covers canyons up to 15 m deep, and this will provide a lahar hazard if future eruptions occur in winter.

1690 Eruption
An eruption of Koshelev volcano in approximately 1690 produced a 150 x 300 m wide blast crater on the southeastern slope.
