summit elevation 2361 m
shield volcano

La Grille volcano is located on the northern end of Grand Comore Island, Comoros. The volcano contains fissures with pyroclastic cones and lava flows.

La Grille volcano formed simultaneously with Karthala volcano, as a result of N-S and NW-SE regional fissure systems. Favourable location of Karthala at the intersection of the fissures allowed it to outstrip La Grille in rate of formation, with eventual build-up of the steep-sided dome-capped shield.
