Langila is one of the most active volcanoes in Papua New Guinea.

1974 Large explosion on 15 February.
1978 Mild Strombolian eruption, Vulcanian activity, Active lava dome, ash emission.
1979 Frequent ash emission.
1980 New crater, Lava emission from new vent, Incandescent explosions, Vulcanian explosions, block lava flow.
1981 Lava flow and ash emission, Vulcanian explosions, Eruption column to 6-7 km altitude; nuées ardentes,.
1982 Vulcanian and Strombolian activity; lava flow, Explosive eruptions, ash to six kilometers, Incandescent tephra,  Two large Vulcanian explosions.
1983 Ash cloud to 8km height, ashfalls to 10 km radius.
1984 Vulcanian explosions; ashfalls on coast.
1985 Vulcanian explosions, earthquakes and tremor, ashfall to 30 km radius.
1986 Occasional explosions; light ashfalls.
1987 Ash cloud to 3 km height.
1988 Small explosion ejects incandescent lava.
1989 Moderate ash ejections and glow.
1990  Moderate Vulcanian activity.
1991 Explosive activity from two craters; small pyroclastic flows.
1992 Strombolian explosions and lava flow.
1993 Explosions send incandescent material 80 m above summit.
1994 Ash columns from both active craters.
1995 Ashfalls 10-15 km radius.
1996 Intermittent Vulcanian explosions.
1997 Eruptions to 11-km altitude create aviation risks.
