Monogenetic Volcanic Field
The volcano is located in NE New Mexico
and consists of 125 cinder cones.
Many of the cones have associated
lava flows.
Capulin National Monument is the
youngest cone. It stands 305 m high and has a base 1.7 km in circumference.
The largest feature at the volcano
is Sierra Grande,
which is a large stratovolcano 15
km in diameter and 600 m high.
Eruptions of Raton-Clayton Volcano
The most recent eruptions were 190,000
years ago.
