Veniaminof volcano is one of the highest in Alaska.
The volcano contains an 8 x 11 km wide glacier-filled caldera. The westernmost of two caldera cones has been the source of historical eruptions.
A line of vents extends 55 km from Bering Sea coast, across the caldera, and down the Pacific flank.
Small ash eruptions occurred at the volcano in April 2008.
