Whakamaru Group Ignimbrites are located on the easter and western side of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand.
The ignimbrites have a volume of 1000 cubic km, and were erupted from a caldera 340,000 years ago.
Studies of the deposits suggests that large ignimbrite eruptions may erupt from multiple magma chambers.
