Kita-Yatsuga-take is a group of stratovolcanoes and lava domes at the NW end of Yatsuga-take volcanic massif. The Kita Yatsuga-take volcanic group contains the Tateshina, Yoko-dake, Shimagare-yama, Chausu-yama and Futago-mine volcanoes.

The volcano has formed above a deep Wadati-Benioff zone (160 km).
